WA Police are investigating a series of suspicious fires in Northam, including one that gutted a Newcastle Road home.  A fire destroyed the inside of home in Northam It was one of four suspicious fires sparked within 90 minutes on Tuesday night Police say the fires could all be linked Firefighters were called to the home just before midnight on Tuesday after a passer-by reported a house was on fire.  Two rooms inside a single unit were destroyed before the fire was extinguished about 12:30am. Northam police officer-in-charge Ross Eastman said the incident was being treated as suspicious. “There are a number of leads we’re following up on,” Senior Sergeant Eastman said. “There’s privately-owned CCTV in the area that we’re reviewing.” Ross Eastman says the four fires could be linked. ( Midwest & Wheatbelt: Sam McManus ) He said it was lucky no one was home at the time. “There’s a large amount of damage to the buildings, structurally they’re still standing but I’d suspect they’re going to be demolished,” he said. He said the residents had been told of the fire. It was a busy night for emergency crews, who were called to three vegetation spot fires in Northam between 10:45pm and midnight. A witness raised the alarm after seeing the side of the home on fire. ( Midwest & Wheatbelt: Sam McManus ) Police said all four fires may have been deliberately lit and were investigating whether the incidents were linked. “Arson Squad are in town and they’re investigating both the structure fire and the spot fires,” Senior Sergeant Eastman said. “They may be linked but it’s too early to give you a definitive answer on that.”  The suspicious blazes coincided with the hottest Northam day in eight months, with the maximum temperature reaching 35 degrees Celsius.
