A COVID-19 patient who has sparked a health scare on Queensland’s Gold Coast after returning from Victoria and being infectious in the community for over a week had links to a Victorian trucking business and a Queensland chauffeur service. Authorities on Thursday said the unvaccinated man, Duran Raman, who has not used the QR code tracking system since September is so ill that authorities have been struggling to communicate with him to track his movements while he was infectious . “He was so sick that he probably has not been out in the community, so we don’t have exposure venues for him other than his place of residence,” Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said on Friday. Dr Young said he may need to go into intensive care. Duran Raman tested positive to COVID-19 on the Gold Coast after a trip to Melbourne. Instagram Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk described the man as being “very sick”. The man, in his 30s, had been in Melbourne and then travelled back to Queensland, to Broadbeach on the Gold Coast, where he resides. Ms Palaszczuk said an investigation was underway into how the man was able to travel from Victoria to Queensland. Catch up on the latest COVID-19 news here ‘Difficulty remembering’ Dr Young said the man developed symptoms on October 11 indicating he was infectious in the community on October 9, when he was in Melbourne. Dr Young said the man then became “increasingly unwell” and went to the emergency department at Robina and recorded a positive test for COVID-19 on October 20. Uber issued a statement yesterday confirming the man had not been driving with Uber since September 19. One of the new exposure sites is Gilly Barber at Archerfield Road at Richlands. [Qld local edition teaser] Last night, the owner of Gilly Barber, Balkar Shergill, said he had been asked by Queensland Health to provide details of movements at his business. “I’ve just got the call to say there was a positive case and they didn’t tell me much information,” Mr Shergill said. “I’ve got to follow it up and do a timeline at the moment.” Another close contact site was listed as the 717pm to 1045pm session of the movie Honsla Rakh showing in the Hoyts Cinema Stafford on October 18.
