Two men, aged 49 and 27, were rushed to hospital on Sunday following a fire on board their sailing boat.

The incident happened shortly after 6pm some 2 km off the coast of Puerto Rico, Mogán, Gran Canaria.

The men were rescued by another pleasure craft, which happened to be in the same area and taken to shore where ambulances were on hand to rush them to hospital.

The 27-year-old victim suffered first degree burns to 30 per cent of his body, while his companion suffered only minor burns.

Their sailing boat was completely destroyed by the fire and sank shortly afterwards.
