Turtle Rescued At San Sebastián

Officers from the Guardia Civil Department of Nature Conservation (Seprona) rescued a loggerhead turtle  (tortuga boba) from  El Cabrito beach La Gomera this morning.

The creature weighing about 70 kilos was stranded on the beach near San Sebastián de La Gomera.

Nearby swimmers alerted officials after discovering the turtle had been injured and was showing signs of exhaustion.

Seprona agents took the turtle by boat to the port of San Sebastian, where it was temporarily transferred to tank at the El Sebadales Club.

Environmental staff are taking care of the animal while awaiting a veterinary diagnosis.
