Retail sales in the Canary Islands are down by 7.5 per cent over the last year to July. Most of the slowdown happend in 2012, with sales falling by 5.1 between January and July.
According to data released today by the National Institute of Statistics, retail sales are down across the country with the largest falls in Castilla-La Mancha, (8.7 per cent) and Murcia, (8.1 per cent).
Strangely, perhaps, the number of people employed in the retail sector rose slightly, by 0.1 per cent, over the same period.
