Over 42,000 people in the Canary Islands are suffering from psoriasis, more than 20,000 of them living in Gran Canaria.
Psoriasis, a condition which causes severe skin irritation and redness, is caused by a failure in a person’s immune system which then causes over active skin cell production.
According to health service professionals the condition is not contagious but is hereditary and can be aggravated by smoking and alcohol consumption.
