The Spanish Government has issued a list of more than 410 medications, which will no longer be available on prescription from your GP as of September 1.
The vast majority of drugs on the list are for minor ailments such as cough and cold remedies.
However, under the new rules, patients will also have to pay full price for medication to treat such diverse symptoms as some skin conditions, diarrhoea and constipation.
Spain’s Health Minister, Ana Mato said the measures will save the health service around 458 million Euros.
These latest measures come hard on the heels of other cost-cutting exercises, which have seen the cost of prescriptions increase across the board.
