Near Miss

Miss Tenerife, seventeen- year-old Patricia Yirena Rodríguez,  has been crowned Miss Spain 2008 to bring the title back to Tenerife for the first time in 30 years. queens.jpgPatricia comes from the Charco del Pino district in Granadilla where excited family and friends watched their girl take the title on a big screen erected by the local council.

The competition took place at the Marina D’or complex, in Oropesa del Mar, Castellón where  5 ft 10 inch, 36-24-36 Patricia was chosen from among 52 candidates.
Twenty-two- year-old Claudia Moro from Madrid  (left) was first runner up, and  Alexandra Andreu, 17, was third.

It’s the first time Tenerife has won the pageant for more than 30 years, when Luz María Polegre Hernández won in 1976. Tenerife has won on three other occasions, in 1963, 1964 and 1969.
