Money For Summer Fire Damage

October 3, 2012

The Canary Islands’ administration has allocated more than 3.17 million euros for the restoration and rehabilitation of areas affected by this summer’s devastating forest fires.

Vice President and Minister of Education and Sustainability, Jose Miguel Perez, said his department had all but completed a comprehensive environmental restoration plan, adding that the money would be used between now and 2015.

It is hoped that the money will be matched by a further 3 million euros from central government, which will allow for the rehabilitation of all the affected areas, not just those within the national parks.
