Live Arico Pets Animal Welfare Supporters (PAWS)

January 30, 2013

The dog in the pictures is Rose, and here is her story. Last week one of our long term supporters Andrea Silver, of Studio 5 hair salon in Los Cristianos, was alerted to the fact that a dog had been tied up on the sea front promenade without water. She dashed to the scene and untied the poor creature, who was weak and dehydrated. Shockingly, a sign had been placed by her side which said, “I’m alone on the street, can you help me or take me with you please”. Andrea immediately took her to the salon where she drank plenty of water, then called us, and Siobhan who runs our San Eugenio shop drove to Los Cristianos with Alice Shaw from Poochies Pet Hotel within the hour. Poor Rose was taken straight to the vets and diagnosed as having a severe mouth infection.

She is now staying with Siobhan while she has her treatment, strong anti biotics followed by some work on her teeth and gums when she is stronger. She is around 8 years old. Eventually, when she is much better she will need a home to live out her days in happiness. She has an unregistered micro chip so it seems unlikely we will find her original owners, but if anyone recognises her please get in touch with us. It is thought that one of the people who build the sand sculptures left her with the sign by her side, maybe she was taken in by him at some point then abandoned due to her illness, we just don’t know. It is also upsetting that potentially hundreds of people walked past her and did nothing. However, the important thing now is that she is safe and receiving treatment. Andrea has been making a collection to cover her medical costs, and we will keep you updated on her progress.
