La Gomera – After The Fire

August 27, 2012

Garajonay National Park in La Gomera is gradually trying to return to normal after the wild fire that started in the island three weeks ago.

The fire is still burning but is said to be “stabilized”.

Angel Fernandez, Director of the Garajonay National Park, says there is  “very significant” fire damage and that the recovery of the nature reserve will depend largely on the intensity of rainfall in the coming months.

Heavy rains will erode the soil and could cause further problems.
