January was the driest in the Canaries since 1995, with an average rainfall of only 6.7 litres per square metre.
It was also one of the warmest on record, according to the Met. Office, with temperatures in January 1.5 C above average for the time of year.
Weathermen said the average January temperature was around 15.5 C, notably higher than the reference period used between 1971 and 2000.
The highest January temperature recorded was on El Hierro where, on one day, the mercury topped 29 C.
