A dozen workers from ITV Vehicle Inspection centres have been protesting today, Monday, outside the headquarters of the Government of the Canary Islands’ Ministry of Industry in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
They are against the privatization of ITV testing and the fact that private garages will offer a cheaper service .
The Ministry’s plan will free up the service to allow registered dealers and garages to carry out vehicle testing, as is done in the UK already,
A spokesman for the protesters in Las Palmas has stated that arrests for fraud have been made following the instigation of such a scheme in Castilla la Mancha on the mainland and are against the change for this very reason, they feel that road safety may be compromised.
Demonstrations are also set to he held in Tenerife, and the workers hope that more colleagues will join the protest in Las Palmas tomorrow.
