Holiday Road Deaths Up On Last Year

January 9, 2013

Twenty accidents leaving one person dad and 31 injured. That was the final total of Operation “Return from Christmas”, put into place by Trafico on Canary Islands’ roads.

The worst accident happened in the early hours of Sunday in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, when a 46-year-old man lost his life after being in a collision with a vehicle at an intersection.

Despite road safety campaigns being largely aimed at motorists, police say Sunday’s accident shows that pedestrians are also at major risk.

Meanwhile, across Spain 58 people lost their lives in traffic accidents over the Christmas and New Year holiday season, disappointingly, one more than last year.
