Fresh Spate Of Tremors On El Hierro

Following a period of relative quiet, the people of El Hierro are on high alert today as the island is hit by 21 seismic events overnight and into this morning.

The earthquakes, measuring between 1.5 and 3 on the Richter scale, are centred in an area 20km deep and northwest of the municipality of El Pinar in the south of the island.

The biggest tremor, measured at 3 on the Richter scale, happened at around 1.24am this morning.

Experts continue to monitor the situation and further reports are expected soon.
