Bouncy Castles and children’s activities in the square, until around 4pm, which sees the start of the Grand Childrens’ Carnival Parade with appearances by Disney characters.
The parade leaves from the El Sombrero Apartments, ending up in the Plaza Bouganvilla and is followed by a childrens’ party with performances by Grupo Sol, la Escuela de Baile Onelia Hernández, Baby Boom, Fizzy Water, singer Natacha and the Garage Animado group.
Around 9pm, it’s the grown-ups turn to have some fun with rock music from Old Dogs New Tricks, followed by open air dancing to the sounds of the Arguayo Band.
Sunday 28 February from 5pm:
The “Grand Carnaval Parade”, leaving from the Fisherwoman’s roundabout in Puerto Santiago and ending up at the Plaza Bouganvilla in Los Gigantes.
Carnival floats will be accompanied by the Los Rumberos, Los Valleiros, Chaxiraxi, Los Cariocas and Los Lusileiros song and dance troupes. After the parade, a grand open air ball with dancing to the Kimbara band.
Monday March 1 from 9pm: The Burial of the Sardine.
The “funeral cortege,” accompanied by the inconsolable “widows”, leaves from the entrance to Los Gigantes and weaves its way around the streets to the rear of the hotel Los Gigantes.
Finally, following the traditional burning of the Sardine, the Widow’s Ball in the Plaza Bouganvilla with dancing to the sounds of the “Arguayo Band”, brings this year’s Carnaval to a close.
