The crew of a Guardia Civil patrol boat have arrested two men after intercepting their zodiac craft a mile offshore near the beach at Jinámar, Gran Canaria.
The boat was found to be carrying more than 1,000kg of marijuana wrapped in 37 bundles, with an estimated street value of 1.5 million Euros.
The smugglers were spotted just before dawn by a thermal imaging camera in a joint operation with the Customs Monitoring service.
Both men, identified only by their initials, A.N. and A.E.H., are Moroccan and are being held in the island’s capital, Las Palmas, pending a court appearance.
