Canary Unemployment Down In August

September 5, 2012

The number of registered unemployed in the Canary Islands fell slightly in August, down 0.39 per cent, representing 1,119 fewer people out of work.

However, despite the welcomed fall, the annual rate of unemployment is up by more than 13.3 per cent compared to August last year, a rise of more than 36,000 and well above the national average increase of just under 12 per cent over the same period.

Despite this, the islands fared better than most areas in Spain where unemployment rose by an average of 0.83 per cent in August, compared to July.
