Despite a slight fall of 0.8 per cent in the number of overnight stays, compared to last year, the Canary Islands remain the favourite destination in Spain for those seeking self-catering accommodation.
The islands led the way in July with an occupancy rate of more than 82 per cent.
The modest decline was caused by a sharp drop in domestic holidaymakers, (down by 5.8 per cent). However, that was offset by a rise of 3.2 per cent in the number of foreign visitors, who also stayed longer.
