The Canary Islands had the highest rate of divorce and separation in the whole of Spain last year.
The islands recorded more than 6,070 breakups, a rate of 2.58 per 1,000 inhabitants, with the highest proportion in their 40s, while figures show that the average couple separated after 15.7 years.
Conversely, the regions with lowest rates of breakup were Extremadura (1.70), Castilla y León (1.76) and Castilla-La Mancha (1.78)
