Canarian Olympians Back From London 2012

24-year-old Nicolás García Hemme and  29-year-old Thaïs Henríquez,  both from Gran Canaria, returned to the islands from London 2012 Olympics to receive a heroes welcome at the airport.

Nicolás achieved a silver medal in men’s welterweight (under 80kg) taekwondo, while Thaïs repeated her success at Beijing by once again bagging  a bronze in the team synchronised swimming event.

Thaïs hails from a sporting family, her parents were basketball players, one sister is also a synchronised swimmer and another sister competes at judo.

Nicolas defeated European Champion, British Lutalo Muhammad in the quarter finals, before going on to win the silver medal.

The two young Olympians were part of a 16 strong Canarian contingent of the Spanish team which achieved a total of 17 medals at London 2012.
