First Breath
Loro Parque in Puerto de la Cruz announced the birth of “Vicky” the baby killer whale today.
This is the second Orca to be born in the park’s Orca Ocean facility which was inaugurated in 2006.
Vicky who is 2.4 metres long and weighs 152 kilos, instinctively swam to the surface to take her first breath just moments after being born last night.
Kohana, the new mother, is 10 years old and was born in San Antonio in Sea World in the USA. She gave birth after 2 hours of labour during which she was attended and assisted constantly by a team of veterinarians, biologists and her trainers.
Mother and Baby are both doing well.
