Australian Tourist Drowns At Callao Salvaje

August 11, 2012

A 51-year-old Australian Tourist drowned at Callao Salvaje Beach just after 7pm yesterday.

Emergency services reported that he had stopped breathing when he was pulled from the water, and as subsequent  resuscitation attempts proved unsuccessful he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Local residents are reported to be concerned by the fact that there is no signage on the newly refurbished beach to warn of the bad undertow always present at Callao Salvaje and say there have been several drownings there before the “new” beach was constructed.
