Canary Government Hits Endesa With Huge Fine
The Canary Islands’ government has slapped a six million Euro fine on the islands’ electricity supplier, Endesa.
The fine follows the more than seven-hour blackout, which left people in Tenerife without power and light during a rain storm on March 4 last year.
Government spokesman, Martin Marrero, said the executive had decided that Endesa had committed a serious breach of trust, by not preventing the circumstances which, led to the failure of equipment at its plant at Candelaria, leaving almost half a million people without electricity.
