    Canary Health Warning Over Calima

The Canary Islands’ Health Authority is warning people to avoid going outside as much as possible while the present calima persists.

Health officials are advising people, especially those at risk, to stay indoors, avoid too much physical exertion and to keep doors and windows closed.

According to the Met Office, the calima will be with us until at least midnight Friday, primarily affecting the islands of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Tenerife and La Gomera.

Health services say that the presence of so much dust in the air can lead to breathing difficulties and that particular care should be taken by the elderly, the very young and those with respiratory diseases and heart problems.
