Canaries Self-Catering Sector - Down But Not Out
The number of visitors staying in self-catering apartments in the Canary Islands fell in January by 8.6 per cent, compared to the same month last year.
However, the Canaries still managed to top the rankings, with the fall in visitor numbers coming in a full percentage point below the 9.6 national average.
The fall in foreign visitors was partly made up for by an increase in the number of residents renting apartments, which rose by 3.3 per cent.
While the UK remains the main market for self-catering accommodation in the Canaries, the numbers showed a worrying fall of 20 per cent in January, compared to the same period last year.
