    Power Restored To Tenerife

The electricity supply has now been restored to the whole of Tenerife after yesterday’s outage.

However, the emergency repair job was not completed until 10.30pm last night after the lights went out at around midday.

The original fault was at the power station at Candelaria and was later exacerbated by a second failure in Granadilla.

Power was restored to much of the island at around 4pm, though some unfortunate people in Granadilla, Arona and Adeje, were among those who remained without electricity until well into the evening.

After similar incidents over the last few years, there is sure to be some serious questions asked as to why the island’s power supply remains so fragile.

Many would argue that if The UK had the same infrastructure as Tenerife, the lights would go out almost every day during the winter.

In any event, the storm seems to have passed us now and all that remains is yet another massive clean up job.

The only bright spot is that the sun is shining once again and Mt. Teide looks magnificent, as the picture above, (courtesy of Television Canaria), shows.

Unfortunately,  the mountain remains out of bounds and the Cabildo have announced that the three access roads will remain closed over the weekend.

Yes, and if the UK had the same infrastructure as say Sweden, or North America, we wouldn’t all grind to a halt on the roads after a few centimetres of snow! You would think as it’s 2010 we could get our heads together and exchange best practice ideas.
