Golf Las Americas Goes Green In Drive To Save Water

The owners of Golf Las Americas have announced that the course will be closed for two months from July 1 to September 1.

The brave and costly decision was taken to allow the company to renew all 18 greens with a revolutionary new grass called Paspalum, which is very ‘grey’ and salt water tolerant.

On an island with low rainfall like Tenerife, water is a precious commodity and the new surface will mean the greens will be kept pristine using only recycled water, making the course more environmentally-friendly.

The sight of the new greens should also please the golf course’s autumn and winter golfers, many of whom come to Tenerife to escape the northern-European winter weather and play a round or two in the sun.

Last few weeks in Tenerife. Rained most days, everywhere very green. Maybe a rethink may be in order

Ah! But think about those long cloudless sumer months.
