Minor Earthquake In Tenerife
An earthquake of magnitude 4.0 on the Richter scale was recorded about 3pm today, Friday between Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
According to the National Geographic Institute, the earthquake, of tectonic origin occurred 10 kilometers southeast of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and was about 23 km deep.
On Gran Canaria, the tremor was felt only in the municipality of Agaete whilst in Tenerife there have been numerous calls to the emergency 112 number from all over the island.
According to the director of the National Geographic Institute, María José Blanco, the maximum intensity of 4.0 degrees on the Richter scale was recorded off the east coast of Tenerife, in places like Taco and San Cristobal de La Laguna, while in areas like Añaza, La Cuesta and La Gallega, they experienced a magnitude of 3.0 degrees on the Richter scale.
Your author can attest to a slight tremor in Puerto Santiago which lasted just a few seconds.
So far, there is no evidence that any damage has occurred.
