Filming Gives Titanic Boost To Tenerife
Media and cinema projects filmed in Tenerife last year boosted the island’s economy to the tune of four million euros.
Tenerife’s Tourist Board, which has spent a great deal of time and effort in attracting filmmakers to the island, say that their efforts resulted in 75 projects being realised in 2009, double the number in 2008.
Chief among them the Hollywood blockbuster, Clash of the Titans, (Pictured) a remake of the cult 1981 classic, which boasts an all-star cast including Liam Neeson and which, is due for release in glorious 3D in early April.
Tenerife’s Tourism chief, Jose Manuel Bermúdez, said the news was a great boost forthe island’s tourism sector.
Not just in terms of the immediate economic impact, but because of the knock-on effect enjoyed by many locations that have been used as a backdrop for big-budget movies and the enormous amount of free publicity afforded by a worldwide audience.
