Bogus Bobby’s Bank Card Scam
Santiago del Teide local Police are hunting a cheeky criminal who robbed tourists in Los Gigantes by posing as a member of their force.
The con artist approached the tourists, who had paused at a local viewing point to take photos of the famous cliffs, on Tuesday afternoon and asked them to present their documents.
He then demanded the credit cards and pin numbers from those foreigners who were not carrying ID and left with the excuse that he was going to verify at the nearest bank that these were indeed their own cards.
Three victims fell for the ruse and the bogus policeman made off to the nearest cash point instead, managing to withdraw around 2,000 euros.
