Swine Flu Infection Reaches epidemic Proportions In The Canary Islands

The level of infection from Swine Flu reached epidemic proportions in the Canary Islands and throughout Spain in the week from the 8-14 November.

However, the latest figures from the Ministry of Health also show that the rate of infection appears to be slowing.

Authorities say the vast majority of cases are no more serious than normal seasonal flu with most of those infected recovering in a matter of days.

However, there have been 663 cases in which, people have required hospitalisation, while the death toll from the virus in Spain has climbed to 115, up by 27 on the previous week.

The new vaccine against the virus became available from GPs throughout Spain on November 16.
