    Good News For Booze

Drinking alcohol every day cuts the risk of heart disease in men by more than a third.

It Gets Better… Drinking large quantities of alcohol could be even more beneficial (Don’t you just love the Spanish?)

It gets Better!! Not only is drinking a lot good for you but those who benefit most are those who mix their drinks.

That is the astonishing conclusion reached by a top Spanish medical research team following a study involving more than 15,500 men and 26,000 women.

The research was carried out over a ten year period on men and women aged between 29 and 69, who were asked to keep a record of their drinking habits.

Participants were divided into six categories, from those who didn’t drink at all, to those who consumed more than 90g of alcohol a day (the equivalent of drinking eight bottles of wine or 28 pints of lager a week)

The study concluded that for those who drank less than a shot of spirit a day, the risk was reduced by 35 per cent, while for those who drank the equivalent of between three and 11 shots of spirit a day the risk was reduced by 50 per cent. (Was this study sponsored by the Spanish Brewers Federation?)

The study was conducted entirely in Spain, where alcohol consumption is relatively high and heart disease is relatively low.

Needless to say, experts elsewhere are urging caution saying that while the findings may well be true, heavy drinking causes problems in other organs, particularly the liver.

In the UK, experts say the findings should be treated with caution because of the adverse effects heavy drinking has on other parts of the body.

Strangely, drinking every day does not have the same affect on women, because apparently their bodies handle alcohol differently to men.
