Los Gigantes Beach Could Be Closed For A Year

The beach in Los Gigantes, scene of the recent rock slide, which led to the deaths of two women, will be closed for at least six months and could remain closed to the public for up to a year.

That was the stark conclusion to come out of a meeting between the local authority, the Department of Coasts, government representatives and technical staff.

A spokesman said, before any plans to stabilise the cliff face could be put into motion, technical experts will have to carry out a series of topographical and geothermal studies.

Once completed, the results of those studies would form the basis on which, the authorities formulate plans to make the beach safe for the public.

That plan will then have to be presented for approval to the Department of Coasts, in order to gain approval and the financing, which is expected to come from central government.
