Seven Million Euro “Come To The Canaries” Campaign Launched

The Canary Islands’ Tourist Board has launched a seven million Euro advertising blitz across 14 European countries in an attempt to boost visitor numbers.

The campaign begins on Monday when the tourist board unveils its 438,000 euro pavilion at London’s prestigious World Travel Market.

Sparing no expense, the Canary Islands’ pavilion covers an area of 823sq metres, giving the islands a presence that will be hard to miss.

And it needs to be. Visitor numbers were down by a million between January and September compared to the same period last year and 400,000 of those missing tourists are thought to be British.

The campaign will also involve press and TV adverts, with slogans along the lines of, ‘Forget winter, come to the Canary Islands’ and the islands’ attractions, such as water sport and sunshine, will feature strongly.

As will the relatively short flying distance to guaranteed sunshine, leaving ‘the winter blues’ behind.

As well as the UK, others being lured to the islands during the campaign include, Ireland, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Austria, Italy, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, Finland and Norway.
