Unemployment Down In The Canaries
The Canary Islands were the only region in Spain where unemployment fell in October.
The number of registered unemployed in the islands fell by just 750; not much to shout about but far better than the relentless increase in the jobless total over the recent past.
However, it still leaves the islands with 248,108 people on the dole, among the highest rate per head of population in the country, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Works.
That’s an increase of more than 57,600 year on year and a 30 per cent jump compared to the same month last year. Still, we shouldn’t grumble.
The fall in the numbers out of work in the Canaries compares to an increase of 98,000 in the jobless total nationwide, an increase of 2.6 per cent in just a month, leaving Spain with more than 3.8 million unemployed.
