Baggage Handlers to Stage Strike
Canarian Government must lower airport tariffs say workers.
Baggage handlers in the Canary Islands have warned that worsening working conditions will result in strike action, seriously affecting services to airline passengers arriving in the Canaries.
After several meetings with management, workers’ representatives of Groundforce, Atlántica, Binter, Cleco, Newco Airport Services, Iberia and Spanair, say the only way to achieve a labour agreement is for the Canarian Government to act to lower airport rates.
Canarian airports are among the most expensive in Europe and workers say lowering the rates will help increase and encourage passenger traffic and aircraft.
To date there has been no specific timetable given for the called strike action.
