    Giant Mushroom Found In Tenerife

mushroom.jpgRetired hotelier, Hans Veyrat, is in the news after finding a giant mushroom in the hills above his home in Puerto de la Cruz.

The Botelus Edulis, commonly known as Cep or Porcini in Britain, is sold fresh during the autumn in southern Europe and dried throughout the world.

What makes this one special, however, is its sheer size.

This particular mushroom could just make it into the Guinness Book of Records, weighing in at 1.75kg with a diameter of 38cm.

Veyrat found the monster fungus, which is much prized by cooks for its flavour, on Saturday in woodland in the north of Tenerife.

Fortunately, Veyrat was not tempted by the mouth-watering prospect of such a gastronomic delight and said he intends to give the giant mushroom to the University of La Laguna in the hope that it can be preserved and put on display.
