Harbour Traffic hit By Economic Slowdown

santa-cruz-harbour.jpgCommercial traffic in the ports of the Province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife has fallen by 4.4 per cent as a result of the economic slowdown.

According to the Harbour Authority, the fall is mainly due to the fall in the import of general merchandise, which has fallen by 13 per cent this year.

Of the almost 12.5 million tons of goods entering the ports, 4.3 million tons were general merchandise, 628 million tons less than over the same period last year.

The port of Santa Cruz suffered the biggest fall, down more than 553,000 tons, 14 per cent less traffic overall.
