More than 30,000 people joined a protest march in Santa Cruz against government cutbacks and labour reform measures yesterday.
That number rose to 70,000 in total throughout all the islands and hundreds of thousands of people in Madrid.
All took to the streets as part of the national mobilization called by the CC.OO. and UGT unions against the economic adjustment measures brought in by Mariano Rajoy’s state Government.
Rajoy’s government’s hand was forced by the recommendations of EU institutions and the need to calm the financial markets.
In Santa Cruz the crowd took an hour to leave the Plaza Weyler and headed towards the Plaza de la Candelaria completely collapsing the tram system by blocking the tracks with their march.
