The Red Cross in Fuerteventura has laid off 21 workers.
The organisation blames government cutbacks and a reduction in funding from local authorities, which are also feeling the pinch following yet more austerity measures being implemented by the new government.
A spokesman said the cuts in funding were “strangling” the charitable organisation, which will now have to rely more heavily on its group of volunteers and within the constraints of a much reduced budget.

ACASA are actively looking for volunteers to help publicise the vital work done by our caseworkers.
