There were, no doubt some red faces at Tenerife’s south airport yesterday when an Iberia flight to Madrid was cancelled because of a mechanical problem.
Not normally newsworthy except that this particular flight was due to fly the Mayors of all Tenerife’s southern tourist municipalities to Madrid to attend the prestigious FITUR tourist trade fair.
The Mayors and tourist councillors of Santiago del Teide, Arona and Granadilla de Abona were among those stranded and had to be put up at a hotel in the area.
It was, however, expected that the illustrious group could be accommodated on another flight, at around 2am this morning, so that they would be in time for the grand opening of the fair and, in particular, the stands promoting the Canary Islands.
